Canada’s National Widget Company makes good on promise
The National Widget Company is happy to announce today that the 200 employees recently laid off will soon be back at work. President Andrew Bryce is proud that his company has made good on a promise made when layoffs were originally announced last year.
“We have sent recall notices to all employees who were laid off in June,” says Bryce. “As a family-owned company, it was heartbreaking to lay off so many loyal people so we are thrilled to be offering employment to people we consider part of the family.”
50 of these employees work at head office and main plant in Victoria. Employees will be called in as needed over the next few weeks.
China recently announced that widgets need to be installed in every new building in that country. The NWC was the first company in the world to approach and make a deal with the Chinese. Bryce says, “The opening up of the Chinese residential market represents opportunity and a secure market on which to expand our capacity,”
The National Widget Company is the oldest widget manufacturer in Canada. It was established in 1888 by the great-grandfather of the current president. This makes it one of the oldest family run businesses in the country.
